The first Romanian exhibited at Visa

Mugur Varzariu is set to have his first photography exhibition “Voices rise behind the wall” at the prestigious photojournalism festival, Visa pour l’Image, in Perpignan, which is in its 36th edition.

Perpignan/France, August 31 to September 15 – Visa pour l’Image, the world’s foremost event in the realm of photojournalism, is set to mark its 36th edition this year, attracting top-tier photojournalists and editors from across the globe. This prestigious festival provides a platform for professionals to engage with exhibitions, conferences, working meetings, and nightly projection shows.

Since embarking on his photography journey in 2010, Mugur Varzariu has consistently captured the attention of the industry. His impactful work has been featured in four separate editions of Visa pour l’Image during the festival’s projection nights, showcasing poignant stories such as those from Syria, the enduring struggles of the Roma community and the hard life of coal miners in the Jiu Valley.

This year, Mugur Varzariu is set to become the first Romanian photographer to present an exhibition at Visa pour l’Image. “Voices rise behind the wall” promises to offer a compelling narrative that reflects both his artistic prowess and commitment to highlighting social injustices.

In anticipation of his debut exhibition at Visa, Mugur Varzariu extends a warm invitation to all attendees. “You are all welcome, and I hope to see you and enjoy together an unforgettable week at the 36th edition of the Visa pour l’Image festival,” says Mugur Varzariu.

“My only regret is not having been a photographer from the very first year the Visa pour l’Image festival opened its doors. I would have wished to contribute more and to have the honor of meeting the world’s best photographers within this festival”, continues Mugur.

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the fourteen years long work of Mugur Varzariu at Visa pour l’Image 2024.
