Klaus Iohannis

This is Klaus Iohannis's journey as candidate to Romania presidency in 2014 and 2019. The leader of the rightwing opposition Klaus Iohannis, member of the German minority, kicked off his campaign for the presidential election of November 2, 2014, promising “more action and less talk “in front of about 10,000 supporters in central Bucharest.

Iohannis, 55, was the presidential candidate of the ACL composed of the two main opposition parties, the liberal (PNL) and the liberal-democrats (PDL). During the second round of 2014 scrutiny (on November 16), he faced the Social Democratic Prime Minister candidate, Victor Ponta.

Five years later, in 2019, his main opponent was Viorica Dancila, the PSD candidate. During the 2019 scrutiny, Klaus Iohannis secured his second term as president of Romania.
